The Pony Pastures Herd

On Cloud Nine (Elvis)
11 Year Old Shire Gelding

Elvis is the sweetest, biggest, teddy bear of a horse in the world. He stands at 18.1 hands and weighs ONE TON!!! He has been a carriage horse and a dressage horse and needed to have a more relaxed home. It doesn't matter if your 5 or 60 years old this horse will make you smile. He has a smooth gate and loves to follow other horses on the trail. His best friend is Artax our Arabian gelding and likes to hang out with him.

Dixies Jewel (Jewel)
4 Year Old Thoroughbred Filly

Dixies Jewel (Jewel) is a beautiful chestnut color with four white socks that make her look ready to show. She has a beautiful personality and can't wait to please. She's has proven herself to be very athletic by running around the field and doing lead changes every other stride. We know that she will make a beautiful show horse some day.

Jewel has recently started to be trained and is proving to be a very special girl, she is level-headed and calm.  Capable of being walked and trotted around the ring, she has even started jumping and can now complete a small course, even with some of our teenage volunteers.  She will be ready to go to her first show in the spring.  We are all vey excited to see how well she has progressed in a short time and can't wait to see how far she will go.

SA Celtic Matador (Artax)
10 Year Old Arabian Gelding

SA Celtic Matador (Artax) was born in 1999. He is an Arabian gelding, 15 hands tall and registered. Artax was adopted from the Second Winds Adoption program http://www.crossedsabers.com/ . He was trained and shown by professionals in the hunter division, but is now letting people of all ages ride him. He has a beautiful long mane and tail and knows he's a looker. Destined for the show ring by famous Arabian stallion, No Question Artax is a special uncomplicated horse.  Since his adoption he has become one of our most popular horses, he loves to jump and gallop through the fields.

Figment of Your Imagination (Figment)
7 year old Leopard Appaloosa Mare

Figment is one of Pony Pastures' lesson ponies. She was adopted from Second Winds Adoption program http://www.crossedsabers.com/ . Rescued from an abusive situation, it took some time to gain her trust, now she loves to go on trail rides and run through the fields. She has proven herself to be an excellent listener and good with young riders. Figment is a leopard appaloosa pony with a long mane and tail, which makes her look like a unicorn! Figment is pictured with her baby that is now grown up.

Figment is a brave pony who thinks she is a lot bigger than she is.  She loves to jump and at a recent show won both 2nd and 4th place ribbons.  We are all very proud of her.

Clever Dancer (Mojo)
15 Year Old Thoroughbred Mare

Clever Dancer (Mojo) loves to be ridden. In fact it seems to be her favorite thing to do. She enjoys galloping through fields and going on trail rides. Nothing ever scares her, but when there's something interesting to look at she likes to stop and figure it out before going on. She seems to be extremely smart and loves to jump. A very long time ago Mojo raced in three races where she just wasn't fast enough to do well. Mojo is wonderful to ride wheather you are a beginner or advanced at jumping.

Seattle Slews Top Gun (Maverick)
2 year old Thoroughbred Gelding

Seattle Slews Top Gun (Maverick) is Mojo's colt and is very big for his age. He loves to take naps in the sunshine and get brushed by students. He's currently learning to get used to being saddled and bridled, in preparation for riding him. It takes young horses a long time to fully trust people and the best thing to do is give them a lot of attention. Maverick seems to never get enough though as he closes his eyes to let you brush his face and mane.

Maverick is now 2 years old and is 15.2hh! He is a big boy and very mischievous.  He loves to get the other horses to play and run around with him.  His best friends are Artax and Titanium, although he gets on well with all of the geldings.

Bloo Light Special (Bloo)
11 year old Pintaloosa Gelding

Bloo is a very interesting pony.  Also adopted from Second Wind Adoption Program (http://www.crossedsabers.com/ ), he is believed to be Figment's father.  Rescued in the same seizure, Bloo was not adopted so he came to us on a trial basis and we all fell in love with him.  He is a very friendly guy who loves attention.  Since his arrival in July 2009 he has been amazing with all the kids, and loves to jump.  He went to his first horse show recently and did excellent in the jumper class.

Bloo is a very interesting color, described as a "Pintaloosa".  None of us had ever seen a horse like him, which adds to his individuality.  Part pinto and part appaloosa, you can see the similarities between him and Figment.

Boots came to Pony Pastures to teach kids to ride. He was a champion show pony for Molly Sherman, but sadly Molly outgrew him. Instead of putting Boots out to pasture or selling him Molly wanted Boots to help other kids reach their dreams and riding goals. It was very hard for Molly to let Boots Live somewhere other than their farm, but she was very brave and thoughtful. Due to her kindness, Boots has taught many kids to post, jump and trail ride. He is loved by MANY kids and parents alike and will always be in the thoughts of Molly and her family and the many kids that he has touched at Pony Pastures.

In the Words of Cheryl Sherman:
Boots places in every show- he has won MANY championship ribbons.  we have show him local hunters, dressage, pony club games, polocrosse, eventing, jumpers - you name it. Molly must have a hundred ribbons from that little guy.  He has done costume classes too!  Honestly, it is too much to even keep track of.  To blow his little horn a bit, he almost always won championship in whatever he did!   Molly earned her D1, D2 and D3 on him.  Most recently he won her division/high score D2 in an event.  He also was incredible for her jumping when she did her tetrathlon with the pony club this year.  He has a heart of pure gold - really....

Brown Sugar (Sugar)
12 year old Haflinger Mare

Sugar is a very cute and sweet little pony.  Again adopted from Second Wind Adoptions (http://www.crossedsabers.com/ ),  she arrived at Pony Pastures in July 2009.  Now she is a popular lesson pony, and best friends with Figment.  Sugar is a slower pony and prefers to stay on the flat, which is great for small kids and beginners to gain confidence.

Selena's Secret ( Kalypsō )
3 year old Thoroughbred Filly

The newest addition to our horsey herd, this beautiful dapple-grey filly shows great promise as a hunter/jumper show prospect.  We got her through the CANTER Mid-Atlantic organization (http://www.canterusa.org/midatlantic/index.htm), which specializes in re-homing ex-reacehorses.

Boe - our new Beagle puppy
Born May 2009

Boe is a very cute puppy but he is also extremely naughty.  He loves to eat poo and grain off the barn floor.  He loves attention and especially likes people who play with him while their children or brothers and sisters are taking a riding lesson.  Sometimes he tries to climb into people's cars and once went on an hour long ride with the farmer in his truck without anyone knowing where he was.

Wolkentyme (Tye)

7 year old Hanovarian Gelding

Tye has been with us since summer 2009.  Adopted by Paula Jagemann from Second Winds Adoptions  (http://www.crossedsabers.com/ ), Tye has become a great horse for all ages to ride, he loves attention, especially from children.  He is a registered Hanovarian. Tye has been learning to jump and will be attending some shows in the spring and summer of 2010.

Gary is a fixture at the farm, as famous and well-loved as any of the horses.  He lives under the barn and is sometimes seen in the summertime running around between the buildings and tree line behind the riding arena.  It is unknown how old he is, but he was here in 2005 when we opened the business so we let him stay and live his life.  He is cute and reclusive so you are very lucky if you see him.
