2010 is here and that means it is time to arrange Summer Camp! 2008 and 2009 camps were both a huge success. Information is below, if you have any questions, please contact us at info@ponypastures.com
Horsey Fun
The camp is held at the equestrian facility - in the morning we have horse-riding and barn related activities, all levels of riders are welcomed and accomodated. Our horses are all well-mannered and each child is matched to the horse that will best suit their needs. All activities are dependent on age and experience of individuals. Each child is matched in a small group with a horse and supervisor suited to their ability.
Barn activities include;
Riding Instruction - in small groups, individual attention is given with one camp councillor assigned to each horse,Mounted games - Simple obstacle courses involving cones, flags, small jumps, relay races etc.
Learning about proper care of the horse - each child will have the opportunity to care for the horse they are assigned to ride,
Grooming,
Tacking-up and the importance of proper care of tack and equipment,
Parts of the horse,
First-aid, common injuries and ailments,
Feeding and nutrition,
Horse Shows
Trail rides
Quizzes and team games,
Farrier demonstration (Shoeing).
For campers who would like to do some activities away from the horses we also offer;
Rock N Roll
Learn to play like your guitar heroes! From AC/DC to Hannah Montana.
During the afternoon when the weather heats up, campers have the option to head indoors for the music portion of the camp, hosted by Thunderhead Studios. Campers are encouraged to unleash their inner rock star! Again, we welcome all campers to join in, however they can. All levels can be accomodated.
Campers are split into groups according to experience and needs so that they can play together and learn to play a song of their choice. They will then work with a teacher to each learn a specific part and practice it together. There will also be opportunities for them to perform as a band in front of the rest of the campers.
This is a great social opportunity for students who usually learn alone in their home, or with the teacher on a one-to-one basis. At the camp they will be able to learn with other music students, as well as to try out the other activities, including horse-riding.
Music Activities include;
Music lessons - in groups, where the campers learn to play their favorite songs as a band,
Open jam sessions,
Opportunities for campers to try out a new instrument,
Performances of bands or indivuals,
Quizzes.
Other activities for campers to take part in;
Arts and crafts,
Face painting,
Making and baking treats for the horses,
Slip n Slide - when campers would like to cool off the inflatable water pool and slide is available in the afternoon. This was a very popular part of last year's camp.
